Korean Village Restaurant Nakpil, Malate

My visit: August 7, 2011

Korean Village Restaurant
566 J. Nakpil St.,
Malate, Manila

Eating in Korean Village Restaurant brings back childhood memories. Having lived in Manila, we used to eat here often when my sibling and I were much younger. Since my family moved farther north, we have less and less chance of eating at this inexpensive but authentic Korean restaurant.

Before Yakimix, there is already Korean Village Restaurant that offers DIY grilling of meat at the center of the table.

The exhaust system couldn't handle all the smoke so once you eat here, your clothes go straight to the laundry bin.

King Chef Banawe

My visit: March 26, 2011

It has been awhile since I posted about my Saturday lunch date with DH. On our way to work, DH was attacked by his hunger pangs. We decided to eat in King Chef. A relative of ours celebrated her birthday sometime last year on the said venue so this is not my first time to eat here. But this is our first time to try their dim sum.

Appetizing to look at, I would want it to have more meat than fat though. Served hot.

California Crunch Cassava Chips

Commercial muna! I have too many backlogs... ack!

A couple of weeks ago, I found a paper bag containing 4 bags of chips at my doorstep. Inside the package was California Crunch Cassava Chips in two flavors- Barbecue and Sour Cream & Onions.

As soon as I walked in my bedroom, DH saw me holding a bag full of chips. I knew he wanted to try it.  After taking a few snapshots,  I handed him a bag of California Crunch Cassava Chips barbecue. He tore it open and after eating a few chips, he handed it back to me because he found the chips rather too sweet for his taste. I like it though. DH and I are always like that- we don't have the same preference. I guess opposites attract? lol I like that initially the barbecue chip tastes sweet and soon after, the spicy taste would kick in. Oh, it's crunchier than some of the chips I am used to.

My mom loves chips! In fact, everywhere we go, she has this little brown paper bag where she lugs all her knickknacks along with a bag of chips, candies or Ovalteenies. I gave her the remaining 3 bags of chips because I know she will be happy to learn that she will be eating a healthier snack.

New find: Something new in SM Megamall

It's been awhile since I have been to SM Megamall. And my oh my, there are so many changes- new restaurants and offerings to try.

I was there at 10am. The mall's opening hour thus the empty parking space. I took the opportunity and took pictures of the newly installed parking indicator- green color for vacant parking and red color for taken slots.

2 pcs. breast and leg part chicken barbecue solo at PhP119

I had lunch at the number one fast food chain here in the Philippines- Jollibee. I ordered their newest offering- chicken barbeque.

mondo juice

After lunch and whiling my time, I passed by Mondo Juice and decided to give it a try. I'll post a review tomorrow.

paper bag

I noticed that paper bags are now being used in the grocery area. The cashier asked politely if she can put all my grocery items in a box. It turned out that in line with going green, SM has been encouraging people to bring their own bags every Wednesday. SM also have reusable bags for sale on the side that when presented would give you additional 2 points in your SM Advantage card. Reminds me again of Taiwan where shoppers bring their own bag for shopping.

packing tightly

It seems that SM personnel are not yet trained how to pack right especially with the plastic twine being used to secure the box. I am only a few steps away from the grocery area when the twine seems to be loosening up.

I support SM in going GREEN! Next time, I will surely bring my own bag!

New find: Jollibee Chicken barbecue

My visit: September 9, 2009

2 pcs. jollibee chicken barbecue solo PhP119

sad about the burnt skin, happy about the breast and leg part

While I was at the counter, I asked the cashier what chicken parts are available in their new offering. I was glad that breast part is included, my favorite! The other parts are legs and ribs. I opted to choose the breast and leg combination. I was happy to see that java rice is included instead of the plain or garlic rice. Now, I think Jollibee is competing with Aristocrat's chicken barbecue. The other question I asked was if I can have an additional sauce, the cashier told me that it's PhP5 for an extra sauce but they could always refill an empty cup sauce. That would be good for me. An extra java rice would cost PhP17.

For my verdict, the chicken is a bit dry on all four pieces that I've ordered. But I think the serving is bigger than its counterpart, chickenjoy. The skin is quite burnt as you can see in the photo and the sauce is on the sweet side. I poured the sauce on my rice and immediately asked for a refill. I gave the waiter the empty sauce cup. In turn, the waiter gave me the sauce in a new container, so much for the recycling and being green. But I saved PhP5 lol

At the end of the meal, I felt that I like the Aristocrat's version of chicken barbecue and its java rice more. I felt like I don't want to eat another Jollibee chicken barbecue, nakakauta siya.

But I am not saying that you should not try it... go and grab one! Un 1 pc. lang ha!
