Updated! Greeka Kouzina in San Juan

October 26, 2012

Greeka Kouzina
285 Units 4 & 5 P. Guevarra St.,
San Juan 1500

Gevi, Cats and I were not able to meet up again until last October. We finally settled for the new restaurant called Greeka Kouzina along P. Guevarra in San Juan. I often passed by and almost always, the restaurant looks full from outside. Parking lot is not a problem as the restaurant's security guard will point you to a secured (gated) vacant lot just right around the corner.

Cats told ordered me to make a reservation, I did but the restaurant won't accept any reservations on weekends. When we arrived at around 6:30 pm, I understand why. The restaurant was already filled with diners. More people were waiting outside, mostly with families in tow. Luckily, the very courteous waiter was able to "squeeze" in a table for two on the second floor.

Greek Caesar Salad PhP 310 with Fried Calamari PhP 170

We were overwhelmed with the huge servings. Had I known that everything here is humongous, I would have advised my friends not to order too much. You can just imagine what our cramped table for two looked like. Well, since our table was only squeezed in beside the table of a father and son tandem, most of our orders were trespassing on their table ; p Talk about going overboard.

The salad alone can be shared by a group of five girls. It's a guiltless Caesar Salad because the dressing is made from 100% greek yogurt and is absolutely fat-free. You can also enjoy this salad with Baked Chicken for only PhP 140.

There are other salad on the menu. I spy a Watermelon and Lamb salad which I would love to try when I go back. Hopefully, with DH in tow!

Arni Lemonato (Roast Lamb) PhP 580

The menu said that it is "Greeka's bestseller! 5 hour roast lamb that falls off the bone". Cats read online that it's a must order. Well, I have this to say, don't believe everything that you read ; p Cats is not fond of lamb yet she liked it. Why? because it tasted anything but lamb, okay, more like roast beef. It was tender and really falls off the bone though.

For lamb lovers like Gevi and I, there's Anoghia Lamb - 2 pcs. Lamb Chops served with mint lemona sauce PhP 570 on the menu, we will go back and order that next time. - Read postscript below.
Moussaka

Each order includes one sidings. Gevi chose Moussaka to go with Arni Lemonato.
Beef Souvlaki PhP 390

This order was tender and easy to chew. All three of us agreed that some of the dishes in Greeka Kouzina like Beef Souvlaki and Moussaka were a little bit sweet to taste.

sidings: Greek Pita

Cats chose Greek Pita as sidings to her order, Beef Souvlaki. It was perfect because we could wrap the slices of beef together with some veggies in pita.

Spanakorizo PhP 180

As if our orders were not enough, Gevi ordered a side dish called Spanakorizo. As she said, a meal is not complete without an order of rice ; p

Cats, Gevi and I aka Triplets

Ok, I now call our group The Triplets lol The table still looks neat in the photo because this photo was taken before our meal ; p

Who would have thought that we still have room for dessert? Well, we went straight to Magnolia Flavor House and ordered a banana split ; p

postscript:

I went back twice since my first visit. On my third visit (November 21, 2012), DH and I were with our group of friends. We ordered three kinds of salad including Watermelon and Lamb Salad (Cyma's version tasted better; Watercress was not bad according to DH and friends). I skipped all three salads and eagerly awaited for my order - Anoghia Lamb. It was supposed to be a 2 pc. lamb chops but I was served with one lamb shoulder that I could not slice even with a steak knife and a piece of gigantic lamb chop. I was terribly disappointed to say the least. In the end, I was not able to eat my dinner because I had to cancel my order ; (

Since there was no more lamb souvlaki available, our friends ordered beef souvlaki and grilled chicken. By the way, both tasted the same. Other orders were ribs plus the free side dishes.

To top our predicament, all three air conditioners were not functioning on the second floor. The waiter told us about "tripping of electricity". One of our friends even brought out her "abanico" trying to fan herself. We were all sweating. Definitely not cool! Just when we were about to leave at around 9 pm, suddenly the air conditioner functioned. Great, huh?

Anyway, I hope Greeka Kouzina could improve on the following:

  • over all taste of food
  • quality of lamb (I am all for quality over quantity)
  • air conditioner on the second floor
  • exhaust system

Tomorrow, I will be sharing with you my newly bought shoes! I'm so excited because I found a perfect pair of gold shoes!
