Thaipan last Father's Day!

June 16, 2013

After my Korean BBQ addiction, I am now craving for Thai food. Thai cuisine is sweet and spicy at the same time. One thing that sets it apart from other cuisine aside from its vibrant color is its savory dishes.

 Happy Father's Day!

In the past, I have written about several Thai restaurants like Thai Bistro, SR Thai, and Muang Thai. I can't seem to get Thai restaurant out of my system so last Father's Day, we went around Tomas Morato area and revisited the only Thai restaurant (as far as I know) in the area- Thaipan.

It has been two years since my last visit, and I am excited to share with you what we ordered right after the break...

Salad, Burger & Crepes at Cafe Breton

May 26, 2013

Cafe Breton
G/F Alfredo's Building
181 Scout De Guia St. cor. Tomas Morato Ave.,
Laging Handa, Quezon City
3746334

Two Sundays ago, my family and I were back at our favorite quaint cafe in Quezon City called Cafe Breton. This time we tried other items on the menu such as Chicken, Orange and Almond salad and Breton Mozzarella Burger. The crepes were so hard to resist so we chose two from our list of favorites- Adam & Eve and Hawaii 5-O.

Chicken, Orange and Almonds PhP 165

Mixed greens with arugula leaves and sauteed chicken slices, tossed with fresh orange slices and almonds

This order of Chicken, Orange and Almonds salad has a generous serving of almond which my mom truly loves so she was very happy ; ) The mixed greens were all fresh, not a wilted one in sight.

We requested for two kinds of dressings- Thousand Island and Vinaigrette. The latter won hands down. You can also opt for Honey Mustard.

Other salads available are Mini Side Salad (PhP 55) and Salad Bretonne (PhP 175)- salad greens with arugula leaves mixed with shrimps and crabs. It will definitely be next on my list!

Conti's Bakeshop in Robinsons Magnolia

April 12, 2013

Conti's Bakeshop & Restaurant
UG/F 142-143 Robinsons Magnolia
Dona Hemady cor. Aurora Blvd., Quezon City
3854375   6245933

Last Friday, my friends and I had a mini get-together in our favorite mall, Robinsons Magnolia. It took us several hours to decide where to eat. Think four girl with four different opinions hahaha Finally, around 9:30pm, we agreed to have our dinner at Conti's Bakeshop and Restaurant.

Baked Salmon PhP 355

Baked Salmon is an all-time favorite whenever my family and I dined here. So, I was not surprised that one of my friends ordered it. The salmon was cooked just right as usual with melted cheese on top. It really looks appetizing!

For our other orders, read after the break...

Pad Thai and More by Chef Cecille in Robinsons Magnolia

December 16, 2012

Pad Thai and More by Chef Cecille
in Front of Robinsons Bank
Lower Ground Floor (Supermarket level)
Robinsons Magnolia
Quezon City

As I was about to write this post, I realized that I have not ordered Pad Thai during my first visit in Cecille Chang's newest fast food joint called Pad Thai and More. So, I went back this afternoon and ordered one plus some more ; p

Pad Thai Prawns PhP 165

IMO, this is better than the Pad Thai Gevi and I ordered in Cecille's main restaurant, Thai Bistro. Of course, presentation wise, nothing can top what Thai Bistro has to offer. You can view the photo here. With this order, I did not even add any condiments available from the counter. It's flavorful despite the fact that I didn't put anything on it. It was oily, the same is true with the rest of our order.

An order consists of stir fried Pho noodles with eggs, shrimp and tofu with spring onions and crushed peanuts on top. It is also available in Chicken PhP 145 or Pork PhP 145.

New Find: Seoul Garden Hotpot in Robinsons Galleria

November 4, 2012

Seoul Garden Hotpot
Level 4-04145 EDSA cor. Ortigas Ave.,
Ugong Norte, Quezon City
2345200

Two weekends ago, while strolling around Robinsons Galleria, my family and I spotted a new restaurant called Seoul Garden Hotpot. My love for Korean food must have rub off on my family hahaha Anyway, the price seemed reasonable when we checked the menu so we went inside the restaurant and requested for a table.

 Hotpot Seafood PhP 319

There is a free WiFi so I was able to share a photo on Instagram. We ordered one Hotpot Seafood. There were a lot of ingredients included in the broth - seafood like clams, mussels & shrimps, mushrooms and vegetables too!

All five of us were able to share this order. Of course, we also ordered other items on the menu ; p We gave this one our thumbs of approval!

To find out what else we have ordered, please read after the break...

Another Birthday Celebration in Ukokkei Ramen Ron

October 21, 2012

Ukkokei Ramen Ron
Ground Floor, 822 Tesoro Bldg.,
Arnaiz Ave., Makati City
8564588

DH and I invited my family to have lunch at Ukkokei Ramen Ron. Yeah, right, another ramen place! You see, DH loves noodles and since it was still his birthday week, he gets to choose the restaurant ; p It was our first time and DH was so thrilled to finally taste "The Best Ramen" in town!

Set A- Ukokkei Miso PhP 380

There were only 3 sets available that Sunday - Ramen (Set A), Yakisoba (Set B) and Half Ramen/Curry Rice (Set C). All three sets include gyoza and salad. For Set A, you can either choose between Ukokkei Miso (shown above) or Ukokkei Shoyu.

New find: Thaipan in Scout Lazcano Quezon City

My visit: November 2, 2011

Thaipan
Thai Cuisine Restaurant
120 Sct. Lazcano St.,
Quezon City
3524926   4578676

I accidentally saw this restaurant when we took the wrong turn looking for H Cuisine, home of the famous Angus beef belly. I vowed to come back to sample what this restaurant has to offer. Even before actually eating there, I already had suggested this restaurant to a couple of my friends. They came back without any violent reactions whatsoever hahaha

Anyway, an opportunity came when after our movie date, DH and I had no place to eat. All our favorite restaurants in Trinoma are either closed down or under renovation. At that moment, Peking garden and Kimpura are not within our budget ; p

Yam Som- O PhP310

Thaipan is a quaint place with lots and lots of mirror much like its predecessors- Romulo Cafe and Cerchio. At first glance, I thought that it's a pretty big place. The mirror does the trick. The hand painted wall is a plus too!

I was not feeling really well that night so I was not able to savour all the food that we ordered so bear with me. For starters, my choice is Yam Som- O- a pomelo salad with lots of garlic flakes, pork flakes, shredded chicken and coconut. The taste of pomelo blended well with the sweet spicy dressing.

Merienda at Chef Laudico's BFAST

My visit: October 14, 2011

Chef Laudico's BFAST
Space #3 Restaurants @ Ayala Triangle Gardens,
Ayala Ttriangle Garden
Ayala Avenue, Makati City

I have read about Chef Laudico's BFAST from a blog but I rarely go to Makati so I never had a chance to try the restaurant. My one and only chance was the day of my sister's graduation. I was with my parents and I was keen on sampling the menu of the restaurant.

 Angus Tapa PhP168

I suppose it was a slow day because only one other table was occupied when we entered at around 3 in the afternoon.  It was humid outside and even inside the restaurant despite the fact that one air con was running. The management's solution was to open the other air conditioner but even that didn't help. We were still sweating and had to get out of the restaurant immediately after our meal.

On with the food... I ordered an Angus tapa. It was served on a red plastic plate. A third of the beef was fat. It was chewy. The egg was cooked well though.

Flapjacks Blockbuster Favorite- It's Back... Better... Best!

Commercial break!

Flapjacks
Greenhills Theater Mall
San Juan City

Flapjacks is bringing it all back! Presenting the comeback of Flapjacks' blockbuster favorite! I was given a voucher to sample the items on their "Back... Better... Best" menu.

mango exotica (lunch) PhP195

My parents and I used the voucher last Tuesday after my work out at the gym nearby. I know what you are thinking! Don't judge me, ok? At least I work out before I eat ; p

I gave the voucher to the manager and he immediately acknowledged it. As I browsed through the menu that was handed to us by the waiter, a salad called Mango Exotica immediately caught my eye.

Mango Exotica is made up of romaine lettuce topped with slices of mangoes, croutons, California raisins, grilled chicken and tangy mango vinaigrette. Dried cranberries replaced the almond slivers.

My mom could not stop raving about the salad. I caught her saying "Hmmm ang sarap!" as she was munching on it lol Crunchy veggies and the cranberries really made the difference. Mango Exotica is also available in Regular portion for only PhP325.

H Cuisine Home of the Most Awesome Angus Beef Belly!

My visit: September 9, 2011

H Cuisine by Chef Hanna Herrera
64 Scout Rallos cor. Tomas Morato St.,
Quezon City

It was my brother who can't stop raving about H Cuisine. Coming from a restaurant owner himself, I thought this restaurant must be offering something really good. I was with my family when I first tried this restaurant. I know I am bound to come back.

H Cuisine's Most Awesome Angus Beef Belly (single with rice) PhP288

I have been back twice since he first texted DH and I. My brother was raving about how tender the angus beef belly and I could not agree more! The second time, I brought two of my closest friends in college with me.

Along with the Angus beef belly, there were string beans, corn and carrots on one side and baby potatoes on the other neatly placed on a white plate elevated on top of a rack with a lit tea light candle in the bottom to keep the dish warm. Personally, I don't think that it does the job but it is more for presentation.

If you are in a group of 2 to 3 pax, order the To Share portion for only PhP428 without rice.

Samosas in Apartment 1B Gourmet Comfort Food

My visit: July 21, 2011

Apartment 1B Gourmet Comfort Food
One La Fayette Square
132 LP Leviste corner Sedeno St.,
Salcedo Village
Makati City
8434075

Two weeks ago, DH and I braved the traffic going to Makati just to meet with friends who love to eat good food! We seldom go to Makati because it's far from where we live. But who can resist dining with super friends, right?

 crabcakes PhP330

It was Ryan who recommended the crab cakes. When DH and I arrived, he told us that he and his wife had just finished eating the cakes. We ordered another one as one of the appetizers. It has bits of crab that you can taste as your bite into it. We ordered 4 of these crunchy crab cakes over green leaves, cucumber and cherry tomatoes.

Afternoon Tea at Bizu

My visit: March 9, 2011

Bizu Patisserie
The Promenade
Greenhills Shopping Center
San Juan
7242498   7262496

March 9 is my dad's birthday. But until recently we don't celebrate it on March 9 anymore. He wanted to celebrate his birthday using the Chinese calendar which we all know falls on a different day when viewed on the western calendar. Anyway, my family have been talking and raving about how Bizu serves good food especially their lamb. I know it's a patisserie, a shop where French pastries and cakes are sold, but they have extended their menu and are now offering real good food aside from cakes. Since we went there in the afternoon, we decided to have our own private tea time!

Perusing the menu, I noticed that the price is not cheap. I guess diners have to take into consideration the ambiance this restaurant has to offer.

For starters, we ordered a personal salad that can be shared by 2 persons. There is also a family sized salad which can be shared by 4 persons for PhP445.

Waldorf salad personal PhP225

The presentation of the salad is quite nice. The salad includes mesclun, grilled chicken slices, apple, mango, orange and grapes, toasted walnuts topped with shaved parmesan. Nothing much to rave about but I like that it has a mix of veggies and fruits. I guess the difference lies in the honey orange yoghurt dressing that they use which was kind of citrusy and sweet at the same time.

Icings Cakes, Breads & Cafe

My visit: December 9, 2010

Icings Cakes, Breads & Cafe
101 Sct. Lazcano St.,
Quezon City

It's always nice when it's Christmas time! I get to bond with friends who I get to see only at this time of the year. My 2 college buddies and I decided to meet and eat at Icings in Quezon City.

This is my second time to dine here. The first time was during Tipco event. I like the salad that was served so I made a mental note that I will come back hehe

grilled pork chop in fruit sauce PhP175

I ordered pork chop rice. Since I have an ulcer, I didn't touch the pineapple and its sauce. I don't want to spend the rest of the day having cramps. The grilled apple is a delight! The pork chop is quite small but nonetheless tasty!

Pho Hoa Vietnamese Noodle House

My visit: October 11, 2010

Pho Hoa
Toledo Bldg

After our massage, DH and I were always hungry. Next thing I knew, there was this parking slot at Pho Hoa and our car went straight right in. I don't like Vietnamese food but DH misses their noodles.

pho gau, gan PhP199.80

This was served hot. The veggies on top were served separately. DH was satisfied with his order.
