Baby Proofing: Secure-A-Lock & Outlet Cover w/ Keys

Now that baby girl is able to crawl and walk with the help of a traditional walker called andador, it's about time that I child proof (aka as Baby Proofing 101) our home.

peek-a-boo! baby opening and closing cabinet doors

A few days ago, I posted the photo above on Instagram. Yesterday, I was surprised that she was able to reach a bottle of Bactidol inside. In the process, the bottle was dropped on the floor. Yes, it was a messy crime scene. Thank God, she was safe!

Anyway, after cleaning up the pile of mess. I vow to find a suitable preventive measure to prevent her from opening cabinet doors.

Chicco Jazzy in Red Wave

I was not able to blog yesterday because it was my birthday. I was out celebrating with my parents during lunch and with DH and baby during dinner. Anyway, more on that in my next post!

For today, I want to share my recent purchase for my baby girl, a new high chair! When I went to Rustan's, I didn't know that there are a lot to choose from. Prices also varies. Chicco brand won me over because I think it was the most stable among the bunch.

Chicco Jazzy in Red Wave PhP 5,995.75

Just a precaution, highchairs are for kids who are able to sit upright without any help from an adult. This is recommended for babies that are 6 months or older. With this type, I can use it for my baby until she turns 3 years old or weighs 15kg.

Lampe Berger Paris Home Fragrance

I got my Lampe Berger lamp kit as a wedding present.  I seldom use it until recently when my cousin gifted me with Chant de Lavande, a home fragrance for Lampe Berger (Parfum De Maison Pour Lampe Berger). I fell in love with its scent. Now, I see to it that I operate it every time I am inside my room. It's soothing and at the same time, relaxing.

Lampe Berger round, blue glass (gold top)

Benefits of Lampe Berger:

  • Cleanses and purifies the air
  • Destroys odours
  • Long-lasting fragrance

The first Lampe Berger lamp was created in 1898 by Maurice Berger, a pharmacy dispenser, to purify the air in hospital wards. Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso were the first "well-known people" to appreciate it.

Tips On How To Organize Your Bedroom Closet

As you have read in my previous posts, I stayed home these past couple of days because I was not feeling well. Even when I am sick, I always wanted to do something so I turned to a long overdue task - organizing my bedroom closet. You see, I try to reorganize my stuff at least once every quarter. What about you?

Tip #1: Choose the type of hanger you want to use

I could not stand to see clutter inside our house. I wanted everything in place. A priest who revisited our home several years after he blessed it commented that my house looks just as he remembered it, like it's still new. Fact is, my home is already close to 10 years old ; p

Anyway, going back to my organizational skills, I once helped a friend who now lives in New Zealand segregate and organize all their clothes. Yes, including the clothes of her husband and kid ; p Thinking back, I should have charged her for my skill lol

Tip #1: Choose the type of hanger you want to use

There are several choices out there, all you need to do is go to a home store and spot which one suits your closet. I opted for wood. To know which one is DH's and which one is mine, I bought 2 colors - light and dark.

Home Improvement: Full Length Mirror

DH and I would always go to Market! Market! for furniture made out of wood. In fact, we bought several pieces already like an entertainment set, a writing desk, an altar table and a side board. Our latest acquisition is this Rattan In-Lay Wall Mirror made to order from Markline Home Furniture & Decors.

Rattan In-Lay Wall Mirror PhP 13,000

If you have been an avid Twitter follower, you know I have been raving about our new  mirror. We bought it just last month. Since we move, it has been my dream to own a full length mirror so I don't have to go downstairs in our small powder room just to check on what I am wearing.

Full length mirror specifications:

  • 46" x 82" x 1.5"
  • mirror size - 36" x 72"
  • border - 5"
  • finish - Natural White Resin

Aside from using this full length mirror for dressing up, I found another use for this mirror. Find our after the break....

Home Improvement: Repotting Indoor Plants (Sansevieria)

I have not been online these past few days because I have been busy with my on and off hobby - repotting of indoor plants. I said on and off because I often neglected what I have started. Yeah, I'm that bad at taking care of our plants.

Anyway, these Sansevieria that you see here are actually the plants I have bought in 2010. See photo here to see how slowly they grow. Anyway, the plants were over-watered and my SIL who has a green thumb took these under her care. Now that it is healthy, I have repotted it and placed it in our living room.

this is the finish output of my indoor plant - Sansevieria

Ok, I am no feng shui expert but when I researched online about Sansevieria, I found this:

Some believe that having Sansevieria near children helps reduce coarseness, while others recommend placing pots near that toilet tank to counter the drain-down vibrations.

Sansevieria is a very good choice for indoor plant because it thrives on warmth and bright light but it will also grow in the shaded part of your home.

Tips:
  • Do not over-water Sansevieria, it will rot
  • Sansevieria needs to be repotted or split at the root from time to time because it can grow so large that they break the pot they are growing - SOURCE

Home Improvement: Komodo Teak Wood Garden Set

Remember my Cafe Juanita entry? We ate there that night because we just came from Komodo Artscrafts Inc. in Pioneer St., Mandaluyong where we placed a 50% down payment for a round garden table and four traditional stackable armchair. We have been eyeing their outdoor garden set for quite some time - by that I mean from the moment we acquired our home which was more than 5 years ago ; p

 Komodo teak wood

It was finally delivered last June 15. I was so excited. If you are a follower on twitter and facebook, you should have already seen a few of the photos that I took of the garden set.

By the way, I specially requested for the cast-iron like logo to be placed on all the items that we bought. I was told that all the new furniture do not carry them anymore. I gave my best doe-eyed look to Irene who was very accommodating despite the fact that we were there 15 minutes before closing time, she said she will request it from their head office. I am very happy that the logo found its way to my garden set.

Home Improvement: Wall Candy

When I got an email from Valerie of Wall Candy asking me to choose a sticker design from her 5 collections, I immediately said, YES! Checking out her website, I was surprised to see so many designs to choose from. This makes it hard for me to choose only one hahaha I asked the assistance of DH who chose - Black Goldfish.

Black Goldfish PhP850

It was a really good choice since my bathroom have "Under the Sea" theme. It's a spin-off from my wedding theme hehehe

Home Improvement: Malaysian Wood Stool

July is the start of the sale season here in the Philippines. Last Sunday, July 3, 2011, we were in SM Megamall. We got there pretty early so we were able to park right away. Just a tip, if you are going to SM Megamall on a weekend, make sure that you go there by 10am or else you will have difficulty in finding a parking slot.

wooden stool Made in Malaysia PhP1, 495 each

Every time we visit SM Megamall, we go to the Furniture Section. We have been eyeing the stools above for a few months. The last time SM Megamall was on sale, only one stool was left and it has some missing parts and a couple of minor scratches. It was selling at a discounted price. I just can't remember how much. Even if it is on sale, who would want to buy a stool with missing parts, right? We went back a couple of times after that and it turned out there was no stock available.

Home Improvement: Mr Muscle Stick-On works!

It's been awhile since I last wrote about home improvement. I have been busy attending events but keep in mind that when I go home, I still want it to have a fresh smelling scent especially in the most neglected area of the house, the bathroom.

Mr Muscle stick-on toilet bowl cleaning strip pack of 3 in lavender PhP49.50

I bought Mr Muscle Stick-On Toilet Bowl Cleaning Strip in lavender scent recently. I got enticed into it because its a stick-on. No messy wire hangs on the rim. Plus, you can tuck it under the rim if you want the product to be hidden. It did not affect the color of the water meaning no icky blue colorant when you flush. It leaves your toilet a refreshing scent and a lot of bubbles after every flush and in between scrubbing.

Home Improvement: toothpaste squeezer

toothpaste squeezer

I want to share with you guys what I have in my bathroom. I bought my toothpaste squeezer which also double as my toothpaste holder from Rustan's Department Store. I forgot how much I got it for but I remember I got it a few weeks before DH and I were set to wed. And after so many years, it's still functional hehe

It squeezes out toothpaste and tends to make your sink area tidy. Plus, in its upright position, it is space saving! You just have to turn the knob, and the toothpaste will come out. Just don't over turn it!

I wonder if Rustan's still sells this kind of toothpaste squeezer/ holder?

Home Improvement: IKEA CHOSIGT grater with container

317 Alexandra Road
Singapore

A trip abroad would not be complete without a visit to IKEA. I don't go there to shop for furniture. I go their to look for some quirky stuff to add to my home improvement.

CHOSIGT grater with container S$4.90

And I fell in love at first sight with this CHOSIGT grater with container not because of its blue color which is my favorite but because it has 2 graters. One with smaller hole and one with larger hole. It is the size of a leche flan container. It has a lid container where you can store your grated cheese or whatever it is that you grated inside for future use. Plus the lid keeps it fresh and ready for next use.

The Eco Coffee cup

I receive a lot of giveaway goodies, some I have no use of while the others like this one, I like. Upon receiving this, I instantly thought of using it as my drinking glass in the office.

The Eco Coffee cup from The Handyman give away PhP549.75

I took it with me to the office the following day and I have been using it ever since. I put in water, buco juice, tea or anything but not coffee. I am not a coffee drinker lol

Home Improvement: Zebra Plant and more!

Except for the last picture which is Zebra plant, I don't know the names of the plant in the following pictures below.

Flower Power: Bromeliad

As usual, I wasn't able to get the name of this plant. I will go back and ask for the name, crossing my fingers that I don't forget about it lol Anyway, I love that it brings life to the corner of my living room.
